Blogaversary: 396 posts later - Doing the Dance of Joy!

The last geek bus home is 3 today!
Yes, it was a surprise to me, too. I remembered last week and then got swept up in projects again that I failed to plan a proper birthday post. If I had I would certainly have talked about how unexpected this blogging thing continues to be and how grateful I am that people bother to pop here to read. That what I blog about has changed over time and yet has stayed the same. And how I wish I had more time to spend writing here because there is a metric buttload of stuff I've seen that I want to share. So instead let's make do with some geekbusbythenumbers:
  • 396 -  posts published (including this one)
  • 11 - draft posts (stuff I started but haven't finished. Yet.)
  • 586 - comments (published - a gazillion spam ones deleted)
  • 138 - Felicia Day labels for blog posts
Another old favourite: how you find this blog
Over the years there have been many times when I've glanced at search terms that have given me pause for thought. I mean - what kind of people are you?!? Here are just a few of the select ones:

webisodes battlestar nudity
"found object stew"
"michele boyd" drunk
404 page geek
2 horse 1 speedo
a geek catches a sexy fairy comic
avatar xxx vdo
bad pink girl
boypants
bus geek sex
corsetbuster

And what of Felicia in that-thing-not-to-be-named?
The most popular off-topic search is this (there are more than 25, this is just the top 25)

This is much more popular than any search for 'higlet':

But then, even 'Becker' is pretty popular:

What's next?
There are so many things happening at the moment I don't even have time to think about them, never mind tell you. 'Mind My Brains, Darling!' is coming on fantastically - shooting has started and we've got our first scenes wrapped, which is cool! I have a new business launching soon, and more on that coming up, and there is also....well, I'm not allowed to talk about that yet :)

Thank you for you eyes and patience and support and laughs over the last 3 years. It's been amazing. YOU are amazing.

Here's to the next 3 years! CHEERS!

Goodnight Princess: Act 1 - The Beginning of the End

Higlet Films Logo
So then, what's it all about?
You don't really expect me to tell you the plot, so I won't. But you might well be wondering what the heck it's all about. I mean - where are the funnies?!? Apart from hubby's brilliant voices, of course, which are still making me smile even after hearing them many, many times. It's true, when hubby originally had the idea for this latest webseries (not even two weeks ago) it was going to be hilarious. And then something happened. The story was turned around and now it's...something else.

Holy cow - what's that supposed to mean?
It's an Internet Play in three acts which explores love, loss and silly voices. You need to see all three acts to understand the whole thing. In total they add up to less than 10 minutes. Act 2 will be out next Monday (10th May 2010) and Act 3 on Monday after that (17th May 2010). This is something different. Of course you might not like it and that's fine. I'm very eager to hear to hear what you think, good, bad or indifferent.

A writer, writes...
If I've learned anything over the last couple of years (and hopefully I have), it's that the only way to really know if something is going to work is to try it and see. I'm really pleased the way this has turned out. Yes, I wish we had a better camera, sound recording, editing suite etc- but we wrote and shot it tailored to the circumstances and kit we have. I think it works well but it's hard to know until you put it out there. We shall see...

EDIT:
Thank you for all the RTs and comments! Your support means A LOT :) And thanks to @egspoony who even Tumblr'd it (I'm trying to get the hang of Tumblr but it's not easy...or too easy...or something!).

The Guild Comic #2 and On Garner Road: The Higlet Files

The Matthew Stawiki cover of The Guild comic #2 from watchtheguild.com (other cover is by Kristin Donaldson)
Hold on to your Dark Horses...
...because Issue #2 of The Guild comic is now out! It's been a Guild Comic week with the release of #2 in comic book stores (and online) and Issue #1 is now also available on iTunes! I received my copy of #1 last week in the mail and - wow! Felicia Day has really delivered a great story. Anyone who has seen The Guild webseries is familiar with Codex/Cyd and her...issues. The Guild comics go back to Cyd-the-waif and is painting a funny-yet-painful geek coming-of-age story (that's-enough-dashes). I have never seen gaming as empowerment portrayed with such a deft touch.

I'll have to wait to get my hands on #2 because the it seems to take forever to have them delivered and according to @DarkHorseComics some comic book stores in the US and Canada might be experiencing delays. But that's ok - I can wait.

More Guildie news
Season 4 is in pre-production! There was a flurry on twitter earlier this week when Felicia tweeted about casting. As Kim Evey confirmed, though, The Guild can only accept actor submissions from agents. However there will likely be a general call for extras at some point, so make sure you are following The Guild on Twitter.

Everything you ever wanted to know about me, and more besides...
A couple of weeks ago I spoke to Glen Campbell for his podcast "On Garner Road". Glen is fellow Friendfeeder and a natural interviewer. We had a good old chinwag and it was lots of fun - thanks, Glen! We talked about books, writing, geekery, Buffy, The Guild and a host of other topics. The interview is out today if you want to get the lowdown on where I got my name from, amongst other things... I even did a new graphic for it:

Oh sorry - I should have put a warning on this! :) The three faces of Higlet.
