Felcia Day and Wil Wheaton talk The Guild S4 at Phoenix Comicon 2010

Codex and Fawkes in Season 3 of The Guild - cliffhanger'd

EDIT: there is now an official podcast of the complete audio here.
EDIT: a complete set of videos from the panel are now up at multipleverses.com (thanks to @tonewaugh for the heads up)

Phoenix Comicon 2010 is this weekend
..and earlier today Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton talked about The Guild Season 4 at a panel. Ace Guildie @Keithallgamer managed to record most of it so I've embedded it as a video here. Why a video? Because you can't upload audio to Blogger.

It's nearly an hour long but I've saved it as a .3gp so it shouldn't be too resource-hungry. if you have problems with it please let me know and I'll pop it onto higletfilms.com.
You can find out more about Phoenix Comicon on the website - they have some great guests like Stan Lee and James Masters.

The Guild Season 3, Ep 5: Application'd
Another cracking episode from The Guild Season 3 this week with the tension ramping up for everyone!

There's a full review of the episode on Pink Raygun.com (which contains spoilers) and there's a listing of the all my Season 3 reviews here which I hope you will enjoy.

Two Hot Girls - REVEALED!
Kim Evey and Julie Wittner show us more than usual in the shower! How I love these girls....

Could be mildly NSFW, but depends on where you work :) And the Bonus Extra videos are hilarious, too! If you are a member of the WatchTheGuild community site then they have their own group - come and join us!

I am a Browncoat #5
Browncoat: Redemption is a fanmade film that is released this year. To help get the signal out they have been asking for videos from fans....here is the latest one!

It features Browncoats from all over the place - including Sean Becker and Wil Wheaton. Find out more about the film on the Browncoatsmovie.com website. (There is also a Browncoats group on WatchTheGuild :))

Last, but not least - Greg and Payman chat and roul(ette)
Like me you might have heard about something called chat roulette and decided it wasn't for you. I did ask about it on Friendfeed and the answer came back "You'll see lots of penises." o_O It was only a matter of time, then, before Mediocre Films stuck their noses (and goodness knows what else) into the seamy underbelly of this new web sensation so they could bring us this (NSFW - REALLY NOT!!!!) video:

The more you know....Thanks for the PSA, Greg and Payman!

The Guild S2, Ep 7 Panic Attack on YouTube (plus Pax and Dragon*Con)

Relive the wonder of Season 2 on YouTube!
Season 2 continues to be posted onto YouTube with Ep 7 going live today. As ever, you can comment, rate and link if you would like - Felicia has always stressed how much she enjoys reading the comments.

I think Vork pretty much steals this episode - what do you think?

Pax 09
Tomorrow sees the start of Pax and some of The Guild crew are heading there already. Sadly, I won't be going (even though it's only 2.5 hrs drive away). Sandeep Parikh (Zaboo), Jeff Lewis (Vork) and Kim Evey (Producer) will be there though! Full details of their appearances are up on the Pax website and I put them up here a few days ago. Keep checking on the Pax site, though, just in case things change. Kim broke her foot recently while on holiday with her husband, Greg Benson (from Mediocre Films and so much more), so if you see her hobbling around make sure to give her gifts and sympathy. And go to Kim, Greg's and Sandeep's panel on Making a hit Webseries.

Plus, Wil Wheaton and Cricket Lee are already in Seattle for Pax! So many reasons to be there....sigh.

Dragon*Con 09
Meanwhile Felicia Day is going to Dragon*Con. I'm still not sure of what she is doing there but if I get a definitive answer I will let you know. Plus don't forget to find Jeff Carlisle, the brilliant who created some wonderful art for The Guild like this:

His work is many and varied - check out his website for more details. If I was going to Dragon*Con I would make sure I went to see Jeff.

And, of course, don't forget that Browncoats: Redemption will be premiering their trailer, too. I did an interview with the co-creator, Michael C. Dougherty on Whedonage.com last week and this promises to be a great event, so miss it at your peril!

The Guild Season 3, Ep 1 review up at PinkRaygun.com

I said I would tell you when it was up!
After watching Season 3, Ep 1 very early on Tuesday morning I was already thinking about my blog post for PinkRaygun.com. I will be reviewing each episode and the review for Episode 1 is up now. I'd love to hear what you thought about the review and if there was anything you would like to see in the future ones.

**Spoiler Alert** if you've not seen S3, Ep1 there is a slight spoiler ahead (plus - what were you thinking?!? - Go watch it right now!!)

Felicia talks about the 'Found Object Stew'
Felicia Day popped into The Guild Forums today and had a little chat with people. She's packing up for Dragon*Con but still took the time to say hello. She also answered some questions, including one about the stew Vork was preparing in Ep 1. She said that it smelled really bad! Tyler, the Production Designer had made it from Cheetos, hotdog bits and a mousetrap...and that Kim Evey (the Producer who also plays the homeless person) actually had to eat it. I suppose that's when you find out who your real friends are!

And she also told us what Wil Wheaton's character is called. Want to know? Really? You do? How much....? Oh well, in that case I won't tell you.

But to prove Felicia was there here's a screen shot from the Chat:

The Guild Season 3 launched on Xbox live plus the S3 trailer

Ah, the irony
I flipped the switch on the Xbox today eager to watch Episode 1, Season 3 of The Guild. After suffering from the crippling illness Guild Deficiency Syndrome (GDS) the wait was over and I was ready to step onto the Season 3 roller-coaster. First little wrinkle was having to wait up a system update, but, no problem, it was soon restarted and ready to go. I went to the Marketplace, found S3, Ep 1 and...arseburgers! Only Gold members can download it. Now, I used to have Gold but because our Xbox was registered in the UK (don't ask how that happened because I DO NOT want to relive that), the only way to renew has been to get Points shipped from England. Apparently you can pay online now but after the hassle we've had in the past I just never bothered. Until now.

What to do?
Now $60 might not sound that much but I can't justify that just so I can see S3, Ep1 a week early. Especially when I'll be buying the DVD and have just bought "Do You Want To Date My Avatar" video and MP3.

Kids want to be fed every day and they notice if you substitute sawdust for oatmeal and cardboard for crackers. So I'll wait until next Tuesday 1st September when I can watch it on MSN video. And brood. And fidget with my GDS for a few days longer. Thank goodness that....

The Season 3 trailer was released today!
Yay!

Now it's a trailer that contains scenes from S3, so if you don't want to see anything then don't watch it. Though how you would be able to resist is beyond me. I won't say more than Season 3 looks like it is going to be an absolute corker and (I can't resist this, so if it spoils you, I'm sorry) Wil Wheaton apparently DOES NOT WEAR UNDERWEAR!!! 'Nuff said.

Do You Want To Date My Avatar? The Guild Triumphs at Comic-Con!

The Guild dressed for success for "Do You Want To Date My Avatar?"

This time last week I was glued to Twitter
Comic-Con was on and the 'Left-Behind' Guildies were desperate to hear anything and everything about what 'the lucky ones' were up to. Comic-Con ended on Sunday but it's taken that long to get around to blogging about it. (Plus we're having the hottest weather in 200 years here at the moment so I had to spend the day by a friend's pool yesterday up near Indian Arm. It's a hard job but someone has to do it!)

Where were you when The Guild Panel was on?
Last Friday at 10:30 The Guild took the stage to rapturous applause, decked out in full Avatar Costumes including weaponry! The Left-Behind were scanning Twitter for information and during the Panel Twitter went into overload. It was a real event for us Left-Behind and we couldn't believe what we were reading: a music video, cos-play, a Dark Horse comic penned by Felicia for The Guild.....? Wowowow! And there was another thing...what was it now...? Oh yes! WIL WHEATON IS IN SEASON 3!!!!! Tubefilter was first off the mark with their coverage that included pictures, links to interviews and a chance to win download codes for the "Date My Avatar" video!

The Panel (without the music video or Season 3, Ep 1) has been uploaded by magicinthenumbers on YouTube:

And luckily my fears about @seanbecker and @feliciaday having a big bust-up on stage were unfounded! Plus for an insider's view of Comic-Con, Felicia has blogged about the whole, wonderful experience. i09 rates Felicia as a "Top 10 Buzz" of Comic-Con (and they're not wrong!).

Secrets and lies
How had they managed to keep all that under wraps? Obviously Felicia's fearsome reputation (the threats, the kidnapping, the violence...) must have been enough to ensure everyone toed the line because no-one blabbed at all. @WilW was given very firm instructions by Felicia. So @WilW even lied to everyone on Twitter about why he was going to Comic-Con:

Today Wil has blogged about his experiences on the set of The Guild and he didn't even apologise for his web of lies. But he did say he was going to talk about each episode after it had been released. So....I guess we're even. (That 'Deadbeat' thing? All forgotten. I never thought he was a deadbeat, anyway).

And that video?
As soon as I heard about the "Do You Want To Date My Avatar" I wanted to see it. I mean, I really, REALLY wanted to see it. And thanks to a very kind friend I got a code, downloaded the video onto my Xbox and....OMG! You are going to freak when you see it! It has everything: a great song, a hook that you'll keep singing, lyrics that'll make you LOL and then....the video. All the cast are there (plus Mo Tancharoen, who choreographed, as a backing dancer) and they look amazing in their outfits. Felicia, as you would expect, looks sexy, playful and stunningly beautiful. Jeff Lewis (Vork) wields his massive weapon with all the grace and precision you would expect from a man so at-ease in his own skin.

Sandeep Parikh (Zaboo), in a very fetching outfit that puts me in mind of the good ole Union Flag (no, not *that* union - the British one), even does some acrobatics. I'm sure Felicia didn't make him do it to get back for all the pain she went through as the naughty fairy on Legend of Neil! Amy Okuda (Tink) struts her stuff in a most stimulating way that will undoubtably bring more calls for her to do more. Robin Thorsen (Clara) plays her part with conviction and is having far too much fun! And poor Vince....! I wonder if Vince Caso (Bladezz) has recovered yet? It must have been really gruelling for him, poor lad...

Yeah, rub it in why don't you?
But fear not if you haven't seen it yet because "Do You Want To Date My Avatar" will be available on general release soon. It'll be on Xbox Live (without needing a code) on 10th August and a week later it will be on MSN Video and elsewhere. Plans are that it will be available to buy from various sources. As soon as more details are revealed I will let you know.

Have YOU seen it yet?
If you have, my good friends Kenny and Jenni from the "Knights of the Guild" podcast would like to hear from you! Just email them at knightsoftheguild@gmail.com with a comment - and if you can do an audio one that would be even better. I'm going to record mine tonight. If I can. Because this week has been a bit of a FAIL where audio is concerned

"Turning Left at Albuquerque" not updated this week
We've had a few technical issues this week, not helped by the massively excessive heat (40 degrees C is *not* compatible with my English constitution. England, in typical summer style, has had non-stop rain and flooding. I miss that). The next episode is done but we'll release it next Monday because there's not time now to do another one before then. I tweeted this news earlier and asked people to @reply to me if they were angry about it. Thanks to everyone who took the time to register their dissatisfaction :)

The good news is that it gives you time to catch up on any episodes you've missed! And if you're enjoying it so far please leave a comment here or on the podcast website to let us know. Thanks for listening.

More Guild Improv - 3 Fridays starting tomorrow!

'Being Humans' is Improvising again
Felicia Day, Jeff Lewis and Sandeep Parikh (Codex, Vork and Zaboo from 'The Guild') are in an Improv Group called 'Being Humans' and they have confirmed three new dates: Friday June 6th, 13th, and 20th. Performances start at 10.30 pm. Go to 'The Guild' website for full details and if you are in the LA area at all, this is the place to be! The cast will be sure to say hello to any Guild fans who make the journey and you could get some photos and memories that will have you envy of your friends for years to come.

Wil Wheaton is Gorgeous and not-so-Tiny...
You know when you've not seen someone for a while and then you do and then you think - Wow! Well, Episode 11 of 'Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show' - a manic, multi-coloured 'Banzai-meets-TisWas' web series has been released and it stars Wil as 'Moshi Swartz' (or is that Mushy Shorts?). 'Gorgeous Tiny...' is frantically funny and is written by Kim Evey (producer on The Guild) and directed by Greg Benson (Director/Editor of The Guild). This episode does not disappoint. And Will sports a very fetching beard. Hmmm. Guess he's completely recovered from his surgery now because he is great fun.

Cap'n Mal's monkey and other happenings..

Terrifyn' Space Monkey - Nathan-style
Here's your chance to bid for a Terrify’n Space Monkey signed by Nathan Fillion - Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly/Serenity. Nathan Fillion is also the co-founder, with 'The Softwire' author PJ Haarsma, of Kids Need To Read, a Literacy foundation that is helping to send exciting new books to under-funded schools and libraries across North America. This latest auction from Kids Need To Read runs until May 25th so swing over to eBay - the bidding has started already!

Wil Wheaton and Star Trek: The Manga
And there is another on-going auction by KNTR at the moment, too. I've not forgotten about Wil, I still lurk on his blog and follow him on Twitter, I just haven't got around to posting about it with everything else that's going on. But this auction by KNTR gives me a great excuse to do just that. In case you didn't know there is a now a Comic Manga series of Star Trek and this auction is of a copy of the second volume to be published by TOKYOPOP entitled Kakan ni Shinkou or "To Boldly Go." Ten assorted artists and writers present brand new adventures featuring the classic Star Trek (TOS) line up of characters. Wil Wheaton (a huge comic book fan) was one of the contributing authors and he has signed this copy. When he was first asked to write for it he blogged about how much of an honour it was for him. This is another great auction and it closes on May 23rd so beam over to eBay and get those bids in.

Jewel Staite to be full-time on Stargate: Atlantis
Over at Whedonesque there is the news that Jewel Staite will be staying on for season 5 as a regular. In a quote from sliceofscifi.com:

Also this season, Jewel Staite will become a full-time cast member as Dr. Jennifer Keller. Staite described Keller as growing more comfortable with her place in Atlantis this season. “She steps up to the plate a little bit more,” Staite said. “She’s becoming more courageous.”

Update on Other Blog
I've posted 'Future Entertainment Part 2: Anticipating Doctor Horrible...' on my other 'Worldofhiglet's Weblog' so feel free to pop over there and take a look.

Twitter-pated - social software, is it any good?

It depends what you want.
Yes, that's not very helpful, I know! As a born-again geek I've been dabbling in the social software pond, trying to make out whether any of it is useful to me. What is social software? Wikipedia's definition is 'a range of web-based software programs... [that] allow users to interact and share data with other users'. Examples are MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube. So I have a Blogger, MySpace and YouTube account (don't panic - I haven't uploaded any videos!). Do I really need more? Probably not, but that doesn't stop me looking!

Follow the crowd
One of the other things I've seen around is Twitter. This is a 'micro-blogging' service that allows you to update people in your circle of friends to know what you're doing. You can use the web, mobile phone (using SMS) or IM (Instant Messenger) to update your 'Twitters', so you don't need to be near your computer or a WiFi hotspot. Sounds great, doesn't it? Going to be late - Twitter (or is that Tweet?) your gang and let them know. Need help with directions/a phone number/putting the cat out - Twitter and you're done. And yet....

You need a life, first
There is no meaningful way for me to use Twitter, apart from finding out what other people are doing. And if I'm not updating and simply watching other people, isn't that a bit, well, weird? Does it make me a stalker? Perhaps...Now, other people use it the way it supposed to be used and get all the benefits. Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day both use Twitter, and seem to find all manner of uses for it. There is a great Blog article from Doug Belshaw about Twitter and whether it is a good or bad thing. I wouldn't have found it if I wasn't looking up about Twitter, so in that way Twitter has done me a good turn. Mr Belshaw writes excellent Blogs about technology and education that are well worth a look.

So Twitter - useful or not?
I'm sticking to my original position. I've got enough to do without adding more things. Whether you might need/want/benefit is up to you. I've got a Twitter account but no plans to start micro-blogging. How about you?

Jayne's monkey is up for grabs...

A spanking good auction!
Those crazy people at Kids Needs to Read have done it again. I've just finished counting the pennies in my piggybank to see what bid I can go to for Mr Sulu's signed photo when they go and put a Terrify'n Space Monkey signed by Adam Baldwin (who played Jayne in Firefly and Serenity) up for auction. Eek! Check out the great piccies of Adam playing with his monkey (I'm trying real hard here to keep a rein on this folks, the temptation to give in to the entendres is building...) on the website. The auction runs from the 24th of March to the 29th of March so you need to hurry on this one. Get off your bunks and get bidding! I'm going to have to resort to looking down the back of the sofas now for fallen cash (wonder if I'll find Anya's necklace while I'm there...?).

Happy Birthday Alyson
And talking of Willow, it's Alyson Hannigan's birthday today. I hope Alexis bought her a brilliant present, preferably one that didn't raise the dead or leave a bad taste in the mouth (...sorry, it's getting late and still on innuendo-overload from Jayne's monkey).
Nathan, Nathan, Nathan...
I haven't got any news about Nathan Fillion, just wanted to mention him. *Breaking news* Actually it's just been announced that he is set to appear in Australia in May at the Firefly Hub convention along with Ron Glass (Book) and Jason Palmer (artist). Not heard anything more about Dr Horrible as yet, but I think we will hear something very soon.

Wil's got stamina
I've not mentioned Mr Wheaton for a while. That doesn't mean I haven't been lurking and checking his blog out, though. He seems to have mostly recovered from his sinus work and is back in fine form - no less than 4 separate blog entries today! Makes other, less worthy, blogs seem a bit half-hearted. Wil is the sort of person that you either love or hate, but he sure makes me laugh. And cry a bit, too. If you are not a fan of coarse language skim over the naughty bits, it's worth your while. And if you still harbour resentments over Wesley Crusher we've covered that - grow up already!

Woody's gone to bed
That's all for today, folks. Kinda tired and out of words. If you've made it this far down, let me know by posting a comment. Seriously.

Jayne's hat - breaking news!

California here I come..
Big excitement today when I saw on the California Browncoats' website that Jayne's hat - the actual one worn by Adam Baldwin in Firefly - is to be auctioned between Sept 24th and Oct 04th. The proceeds are going to the Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation. I expect that this will be the subject of intense bidding so check their CABC eBay page to make sure you don't miss it.

Once more into the breech
And so it goes on - the campaigning, I mean. Faces of Serenity have launched a campaign designed to persuade Universal to make a Serenity sequel movie. The nature of the campaign appears a little, well, arduous, at first but I think it is based on the very sound notion that Universal will be most swayed by proof that there is a fan base that is willing and able to shell out to see the movie and buy the merchandise. And the photo part should be good fun.

Wheatonesque
Wil Wheaton is still recovering from his op, though things seem to be going well. He's not updating his website as much as usual while he convalesces but he has posted a very apposite photo. I'm not sure whether Anya (from Buffy) would be pleased or terrified!

Ploughing (plowing) your own furrow
I watched 'Our Mrs Reynolds' from Firefly again last night and now I'm wondering where that expression comes from. Not to worry, it is a perfect example of why Firefly was such a great program. Anyone who is yet to see Firefly/Serenity would be well advised to watch that one episode - chances are you'll be a convert. The script and acting are fantastic.

Good Bible
So endth the lesson for today.

Do the math

That coat looks kinda brown
Yes, I know on my last blog I promised you postulations on the Google search results 'tomorrow' but I've been ill and busy in the meantime. But I'm back now, with added phlegm. So straight into the stats. As you will see from the table in 'News from the 'Verse', Google shows a fair amount of pages devoted to Firefly, Buffy, etc. Now before we go any further, and because we are who we are, let me note the following:

1. The number of pages returned on a Google search does NOT necessarily represent the popularity or otherwise of anything
2. The shows and movies being compared differ in many respects not least the amount of time since release and numbers of follow-ups/sequels/prequels
3. Stats can be made to show anything
4. All the calculations are 'real' because I know you will check them

So you keep saying, Professor!
The first thing to note is - Star Wars TV series - who knew that was coming out next year? A new sci-fi series...interesting. But enough digressing, already! According to my calculations, Star Wars is only 4.5 times more popular than Serenity.
How do we get that figure? Well, the raw data shows that 'Star Wars Movie' vs 'Serenity Movie' gives:
1780000 / 66500 = 26.8

However, there have been six Star Wars movies released so we can divide the original Star Wars figure by 6 so now:
(1780000/6) / 66500 = 4.5

That is a stunning result! Star Wars is one of the most successful franchises of all time, netting altogether about US $4.3 billion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars ). And the first one was released 22 years ago, as opposed to 3 years ago for Serenity. Now the Internet has not been around in it's present form for all of the 22 years but you can bet you bottom dollar that some of the first web pages were about Star Wars. Certainly some of the first newsgroups were.

But what does it mean?
Of course, it means nothing. But if you can accept the dodgy premises of the calculations (come on - you can suspend your disbelief for Luke - use the Force!) it shows us that for every page written about Star Wars, there is almost a quarter of a page written about Serenity. And that gives me a new hope. With popularity like that, a new Star Wars TV series to come next year and Joss back with a new Fox show, things are looking better than they have for a long time. Probably.

Isn't it 'maths'?
I still can't quite get my head around saying 'math' instead of 'maths' - I'm from England so you'll just have to excuse me. I'm over the physical pain part when I say it, but it still doesn't seem right. But I'm in Canada now, so I must adjust. But however you say it, we mustn't be scared by the concept of math. I was for a long time (before I embraced my inner-geek), but now numbers are my friend. Just don't ask me to do any of Skytopia's impossible math questions http://www.skytopia.com/project/imath/imath.html.

Will Wheaton?
Wil hasn't updated his blog for a few days so we're going to have to assume he's taking his doctor's orders seriously and resting up. I haven't heard anymore re the Grauman's lineup and I'm still waiting for Star Wait, but all good things....

Friday, February 15, 2008

No news is good news?

In [cybergeek]space, no-one can hear you...
ask a polite question. Apparently. Well, still a big nothing on the lineup dudes in terms of making direct contact. My email appears to have been delayed/deleted/ignored. But then, how long do you wait after you sent an email before you know you aren't going to get a reply? Email is an instant communication tool, but only if the other person checks their email. And I guess it could easily have been be filtered and never even got to the actual inbox. So maybe I'll wait a bit longer before I email another member.

A new hope...
I've not been entirely unsucessful, though. I have ordered a new DVD for myself. Entitled 'Star Wait' it chronicles the Revenge of the Sith lineup in all its apparent glory. I am really looking forward to this - perhaps we will get some answers after all! Let me know if you've seen it already but no spoilers, please!

You're getting a burning sensation?
And while I was not receiving email and comments from people guess what I found? The transcript to 'Raw'. Now, when I first saw Eddie Murphy on a worn-out video at a friend's house I nearly choked to death. It's hard to imagine now, perhaps, but as a teen who had only ever attended Catholic school and college such a barrage of swearing and vivid imagery had a profound effect. I kept thinking that the police would charge in at any minute to put a stop to it but I could not stop laughing. It was so wrong and so funny. And all that summer we communicated to each other using references to it. But with only 10% of the swearing. Which, actually, was still a heck of a lot of swearing. Happy days! I can't wait for my kids to be old enough.....

No, chicken liver shoot out my nose!
Better news on Wil Wheaton. He is recovering well from his surgery with only minor side effects like high blood pressure and chicken liver bogies. His description of this is great (and disgusting) http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/2008/02/i-dont-want-to.html. Let's hope they clear up in time for his next convention appearance or he might get wrongly ushered into the special effects arena. Be well again soon, Wil (I tried to use Trackback to your link so I would appear to be a worthy geek, but apparently Blogger doesn't support it, so no go).

Back in the Dollhouse?
The Writers strike has now finished - hooray! That should mean that Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku can get their new series Dollhouse underway. A new TV series from Joss? And I know about it BEFORE it is released? Things are improving indeed. It was slated for an Autumn (sorry - Fall) release but no word yet on whether that will happen now. As soon as I know more...

Once more, with feeling...

So blogs, how do they work, then?
Ho hum, this is still pretty new for me so clicking on 'Publish Post' instead of 'Hide Preview' is an occupational hazard. They aren't even near each other, my only excuse is that's it's been a long day. Anyhoo, there was more exciting news - I had my first comments on the Blog!

Thanks to haley and annonymous for your posts, much appreciated. And Wil Wheaton is still blogging though apparently recovering from some nasal surgery which sounds quite nasty.

To comment or not to comment
I'm not sure on the etiquette of replying to comments - should you add a comment to your own blog? I did for haley but then I wondered whether it looked like I was trying to make the comments list look bigger so I didn't for annonymous, so don't think I was ignoring or dissing you. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually, now I'll just try the 'Preview' again...

404: page not found

Fly casual
Well I should at least get some points for trying, shouldn't I? I mean, how hard can it be to find out what happened in a remote (from me, at least) place nearly 3 years ago? To be sure, there was obviously quite a bit of interest in the 'lineup vs Grauman's/FOX' case at the time leading up the the opening of 'Revenge of the Sith', but what happened afterwards? Did they all troop round the corner to the Arclight and see it there? How do they view what they did now with the mellowing effect of time?

Good questions, I think you'll agree, and ones that deserve an answer. We need to know how it all ended and if indeed it did end for the people involved. Perhaps they are still scarred by the whole event, have become embittered and are even now plotting the downfall of civilisation through the use of viral ringtones. Or maybe some met life partners in the lineup, found a god other than George Lucas and have donated their pristine collection of action figures (see, I didn't say 'doll' - I have few myself, actually...) to charity. Hopefully the charity work they did in the lineup has continued and maybe they still do lineups for other events, too.

Well, I have no idea the answer to any of these questions. But I have tried to find out. I've used my extensive list of insider contacts (i.e. posted a couple of questions on Yahoo Answers) and even used search engines other than Google (don't you miss Webster?) but no joy. Until...I did find a message board that looks like it might be connected to the lineup people. I don't want to say too much but I emailed someone and hopefully I'll get a reply. I love it when a plan comes together.

Star Wars Trek?
The great part about not finding out what you wanted to on the 'net is finding out about lots of other things. Useful things, illuminating things, geek-based things...like HTTPanties. Now, as a carbon-based geek of the female persuasion there are few places on my highstreet that cater for the more discerning geek. But anyone in need of a lastminute Valentine's gift could try 'ThinkGeek' for inspiration http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/itdepartment/6792/. The 'action' shots are fantastic (and tasteful, so no worries there). It's up to you whether you chose to sport the '200 OK' or the '403 Forbidden'...

No, Star Trek Wars.
And Geeksta rap - apparently it's the new thing. Although I'm a big fan of Weird Al's 'White and Nerdy' I had no idea that it was (nearly) going mainstream, but there are examples on iTunes if you want to check it out. See http://www.wordspy.com/words/geeksta.asp for a great primer.

It's Pasadena all over again...
And I've heard from my local Browncoats. They are still in business and there are some gatherings coming up. I've been to exhibitions before but never a convention or a fanmeet, so I'm a bit nervous. Plus finding a babysitter is a problem. But I'm excited. There will be conversations about favourite episodes, dialogue and characters so I'd better watch the Firefly boxset again (no chore there!). Plus I get to meet some new people. I bet the lineup people could give me some pointers...

cybergeekspace - did I create a new word?

Legends of the scrawl

I was not too disappointed to find out that no-one took the time to let me in on the in and put me out of my misery about what's happening and what's not. Rome wasn't built in a day and I've obviously lived in ignorance for some time now so another few days/weeks/months probably won't hurt too much.

Honestly. I don't mind at all. And I certainly wasn't checking my email every few minutes. Or checking that my wi-fi hadn't packed up. Or checking Blogger's status. Not me. I've got a life, you know!

But I got to thinking. If I got a comment and it was negative, would that make me feel bad? Or if I found out something really big (like David Boreanaz was married or something) would I wish I hadn't known? And, how long is the longest time a blog (of any description) has been available but didn't get any comments? Or even any viewings? How do you tell if your blog has been viewed anyway? Yes, questions.

So, being bored and unappreciated I Googled cybergeekspace and guess what - no listings! And because I am the sad person I am I actually screenshotted (is that the right word?) it and saved it in a word document. Ah! I have made my own happening and now everyone else is out of touch! At last I am the first to know! In years to come other, lesser, geeks will pore over these texts and say......cybergeekspace? Man, that is so lame! Tsk.

Tomorrow is another day and my self-appointed task is to find out what happened to those geeks who lined up waiting for Revenge of the Sith to not arrive from Wil Wheaton's blog (see yesterday). How long did they wait? Did the cinema show it eventually? Are they still there?

Of course, if you already know the answer please let me know and I can spend the time more productively. Like doing some real work. Or something.

numfar, do the dance of shame.........

Ever feel like you're out of step with, like, everything? Apparently, when I wasn't looking, the following happened:

Joss Whedon (bow, you dogs!) had a show murdered by Fox.

I bought the Firefly box for Xmas and was completely blown away by it. I knew Joss was Boss through Buffy and Angel, but I couldn't believe that this series had been killed. The worse part is that is was cancelled in 2002! How did I not know? 5 years? I had heard a few comments on other websites but being based in the UK until very recently it had slipped me by. So now I have got to become a Browncoat - but am I too late?

Wil Wheaton started blogging, then apparently stopped
Look, say what you will about the CHARACTER Wesley Crusher (and believe me, I hated that CHARACTER as much as the next geek), I hope I never really believed that the ACTOR was anything like that. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

And what a witty guy Will turned out to be when I saw his blog on Wil Wheaton dot NET. His description of Star Wars Ubernerds queueing outside the wrong cinema in protest of the non-screening of 'Revenge of the Sith' still has me laughing ( see http://www.wilwheaton.net/mt/archives/003246.php). But guess what? It looks like that site hasn't been updated since 2005.

Still, he was also working for suicidegirls apparently, so I looked that up and 'horror!' he got the boot in Dec 2007 sonogo there.

England are not playing in the World Cup this year
Actually, I was all too aware of that, but it still sucks anyway. And yes, they play FOOTBALL, not soccer. Except they haven't been playing it very well. At all.

What else have I missed?
Now I'm a bit worried. I used to know all about geekdom, what was cool (relatively speaking), what was good, what I shouldn't waste my time on. But I must have taken my eye off the ball at some stage because there is so much I don't know - and even worse - lots of it happened a long time ago.

I need help
That much is obvious, but not for the reasons you're thinking (come on now, I could hear you from here!). What don't I know that I should? Why didn't I know about it? How can I make sure that I do know about it in the future without chaining myself to the 'net 24/7 (not necessarily a bad thing, but I got other stuff to do, too)?

I don't want to miss the last geek bus home so this is my SOS.

I need you to tell me what I didn't know about what's going on in the world that matters most - cybergeekspace.
