Festival of The Sea, Anyone?
Tomorrow sees the penultimate episode of Season 4, but how about Episode 10 first?
I've reviewed on The Festival of The Sea on PinkRaygun.com. And, because I've been very preoccupied with preparations for VCON 35 in Vancouver this week, I decided to do a quiz. I wonder what score you will get? Only one way to find out!

I'm away in the big city for a few days for VCON 35 so my review of Episode 11, "Hostile Takeovers" will be delayed a little. Of course, if I had a bit of help reviewing Episode 11, it might be up before the Season Finale, and wouldn't that be awesome? Reviewing The Guild
I've been reviewing all the episodes of Season 4 of The Guild over at PinkRaygun.com. If you haven't caught up with Episode 8 yet, here it is:
Season 4 is really stacking up to being the best season yet. The storylines, acting and sheer joy is hard to describe. But I've been trying! Here's all my reviews, for your reading pleasure:

Cyd Sherman has a new job! Yes, our sometime Guild Leader has taken a step into the world of work and is now the social media hub of Cheesybeards. And not content with just playing out this new storyline as part of the weekly series, there is a new website, Facebook page and Twitter account for Cheesybeards. There is even a Yelp entry for Cheesybeards!
A C health rating is a good thing??
More interestingly still - Cyd's struggle to get bums on seats in Cheesybeards is being played out through these different websites right now. The Yelp entry above is from a not-very-satisfied customer how mentions the C health rating. 'Ollie C' (who must be Cyd since Ollie has never even turned his computer on) replies: "We worked really hard to get that C rating :("
And dealing with difficult customers has driven Cyd to complain about them on Twitter already:

A quick look at Facebook, twitter and Yelp shows that fans are already enjoying dipping into the world of Cheesybeards and are being rewarded with replies. If you fancy doing your own Yelp review about the spicy wenches or asking about the cute redhead in the back office (which seems to be popular) then why not give it a go? Who knows how long Cyd will have this job...?
Season 4 Outlook: Epic with a side of gAArlic fries (or garrrrrrrrrrlic fries?)
This expansion of The Guild 'verse is a welcome new sideline but only part of what is going on this Season. Many fans are already saying this is their new favourite and it's hard not to agree (although I hate to pick a favourite). There are many other storylines going on - Zaboo vs his mum, Tink and Clara vs enterprise, Codex vs ho-baggertry - and plenty more. Who knows what will happen? And will we ever find out what 'incident' took the 'Sea's Bounty' off the menu?

The Guild is rocking San Diego Comic Con
...which is no surprise to anyone who followed them last year. Their signings have been packed and everyone is wondering what is going to be revealed at the panel tomorrow. The full schedule for The Guild at SDCC is up at WatchTheGuild.com.
And to get into the mood for tomorrow's panel, why not relive the excitement and wonder of last year? PinkRaygun have been publishing a chapter from one of the non-fiction books I've written. "From Cheetos to Stripper Bus: The Ultimate Fan Guide to how Felicia Day built The Guild Empire Level by Level." follows Felicia from her post-Buffy doldrums to the triumph of SDCC, the release of "Do you Wanna Date My Avatar" and beyond. Celebrate The Web
Ah, the sadness of not being at SDCC is tempered slightly by the fact that one of the must-see events in San Diego this weekend is being streamed live! Celebrate The Web 2 (CTW2) is being held tomorrow afternoon at The Bristol Hotel in the Ballroom.
Since Jenni Powell and Kim Evey set up Celebrate The Web to honour the Streamy winners, it has blossomed with the support of the community. For CTW2 Jenni, along with Taryn O'Neill and Stephanie Thorpe have organised a great line up which includes a mixer, some web series previews, a sci-fi/horror panel and a fantasy/ gaming panel. See the program here.
It all starts at 3:30 tomorrow and promises to be an amazing event. For all the latest details you can follow @CelebrateTheWeb on twitter.

The Guild at San Diego Comic Con
Excitement is building about what is going to be revealed at Comic Con this year by The Guild. With Season 4, Episode 2 out this week, the Knights of The Guild CompanionCast out now and my review out soon on PinkRaygun, it's already a Guild-filled week.
But wait - there's more! Today PinkRaygun.com have published the first part of "Homecoming: The Guild at San Deigo Comic Con 2009". This is a chapter from my sadly as-yet unpublished book, "From Cheetos to Stripper Bus: The Ultimate Fanguide to how Felicia Day built The Guild Empire Level by Level", and is a great primer to what might happen at SDCC this week. Parts 2 and 3 will be out tomorrow and Friday.

What do you do when you have too much to do?
Usually I panic for a bit, make a cup of tea, think about doing a list and then get on with the easiest bit. The whole 'eating a frog' thing is good in theory but I don't often practice it. And sometimes I do completely the opposite and invent more things to do because they are more fun. And this is what happens then: (Greg Benson from @mediocrefilms is to blame for this -and here's the proof).
There's so much to get through here that I'm keeping it as brief as possible!

Since Jenni Powell and Kim Evey organised the first Celebrate The Web event after The Streamys this year, the idea has really caught on and even after releasing extra tickets, the events are sold out. But never fear - there is a wait list. The Second CTW has been orgainsed by Jenni Powell, Taryn O'Neill and Stephanie Thorpe and is being held in San Diego on Saturday. YouTube have told me I can make money from the Evil League of Evil webseries I did - I wonder if Joss will mind? So far no one seems to have a clear view either way - what do you think?

There was massive excitement (and massive numbers!) in Guild Chat last night as the anticipation for Season 4 flowed over into a flurry of frenetic finger-tapping. Ning held up, though, and even 70+ ppl online didn't crash it. Among the luminaries that joined in were Felicia Day, Kim Evey and Sandeep Parikh.
Waiting is hard to do
As 10:00, 10:30, 11:00 rolled on, Guildies in different time zones were bemoaning the sleep they weren't havin, but no one wanted to rest before seeing the episode. Guildie Tim was on the ball, though, and at about 11:20 he posted in chat that it was live! OMGWTFBBQ so AWESOME! And here it is:

For someone with more than her fair share of freckles, the sun is not really my friend. So what better way to spend a record-breaking heatwave than driving into Vancouver and sitting in a friendly cafe watching my favourite gamers living, loving and learning? (Well - living, anyway.)

Relaxing, mid-marathon
You never forget your first time
It wasn't just die-hard Guildies, there, either. Several people who had never seen The Guild before came along and, judging by the laughs, gasps and LOLs, everyone had a great time. I spoke to a long time Browncoat who had heard of The Guild but had never seen any of it. He was very impressed by the end of Season 1, and stayed for all 3 Seasons. The quality of the writing and acting surprised him and he was very interested in the history of how The Guild came about. And his favourite character was Clara - who is so endearing despite being so morally bankrupt. Thanks to Serena and Alan for organising everything, we had a wonderful time!

Apparently, on the way home from the Marathon, Gayle was talking about Felicia and the person in the next seat leaned over and asked if they were talking about Felicia Day. Such is the power of Red....

The schedule for SDCC has been released with all the details about The Guild panel and booth over on watchtheguild.com. They are listed under “Signal Fire Studios/The Guild” in the exhibitor guide and are at booth 4201. The whole cast will be there and there will be signings every day - keep checking watchtheguild.com for updates. And also make sure you are following @theguild on twitter, because any last minute changes and opportunities will be announced there.

Season 4 of The Guild is less than one week away!
Remember how hard Guild Deficiency Syndrome bit during the winter? How long the months stretched as we waited for news of Season 4 (except for those readers in the Southern Hemisphere, of course. For you it was a long summer :))? Well now the wait is almost over! Season 4 premieres on July 13th, so how should one prepare for this momentous event? Here's one suggestion:
BC Browncoats present: The Guild Marathon
I don't have to worry about making sure I'm up to date with everything because Serena from The BC Browncoats, along with Alan D "Masked Roger" Penguin-guy, have arranged for Seasons 1-3 to be shown at La Fontana in Vancouver this Saturday. Three Seasons in One Day will be a treat for Guildies and those who are Guild-curious, and hopefully it will be a Crowded House. Apparently there are *still* some people in the world who haven't seen Felicia Day in all her glory, so this will be a great primer for them, too.
On a scale of 1 to 10....
...it rocks! But are people really excited about the prospect of Season 4? How can you even measure that? I'm not sure but I think that this gives you an indication:
In 14 hours there were 2,471 likes and 233 comments to The Guild announcement on Facebook. That's not bad going! And, in case you were wondering, it also confirms that Season 4 will debut on both Xbox Live AND the web simultaneously.

The Webventures of Justin & Alden: now on your intertubes!
What would YOU do to get famous? This is an interesting question and one that Justin and Alden are working through at the moment in their wacky Webventures. Episode three is now out and our hapless duo find themselves mixed up with some bad - and hot - company (with guest appearances by Scott Chernoff, Adam Leiphart, Jessica Rose, Douglas Sarine and Taryn Southern):
Sticking it to the basics Webventures is multi-layered, not unlike the Trident Gum so artfully placed within each episode. On one level it is a buddy movie with the familiar standards of the less-than-smart slacker and his even-less-smarterer friend who are fighting against 'The Man' to achieve a dubious goal (where 'fighting' equals 'driving around in apparent circles', 'The Man' is their obscurity and the dubious goal is fame. And Felicia Day.).
Webventures is also a road trip where the guys live and love and learn. Just, you know, with not much of any of those things actually happening.
On another, slightly more elevated level, it is a stark indictment of the paucity of ambition in today's youth, where the only motivation to do anything is driven by a desire to achieve that most ignoble of goals - FAME! They want to live forever. They want to learn how to fly. Fame! Remember....What were we talking about again? Oh yes. Pie.
And the last layer is the same as the first. Like pie. It's a snappily-written comedy that manages to knit together most of the stars of the webseries firmament into a mostly-believable* narrative where product-placement literally provides cohesion. Where we go back to the future to when soap operas were a legitimate form of entertainment (and advertising), and George Washington roamed the earth.
What have we learned? Webseries can be funny, knowing, informative and pay the rent. And former Presidents might try to jack the gas out of your ride.** You can tri-denting their reputation but once you've chewed it over you'll gob-solutely admire their tongue-in-cheek humour and won't want to burst their bubble.***
And now for something completely different.... Don't forget that Goodnight Princess Act 1 and Act 2 are now up on YouTube. The final Act 3 will be out next Monday and you can find out more here. We've had some really positive feedback so far - so yay for trying something new!
* My suspension of disbelief might be calibrated differently to yours ** I'm trying not to hold Sean Becker responsible for Kenny's recent troubles, but I think we all know who the culprit was. *** You can blame Hubby for these. The above links to the webseries were broken on the streamys site this morning and there were a couple of other glitches, too (including a big audio delay on The Guild video). I commented on the website and I got a response from Josh Cohen within 5 minutes thanking me for letting them know and assuring me he was working on them all now. That's what I call good customer service - well done, Streamys!
Make sure you vote every day for the webseries you want to see get the Award! Yesterday there was a competition on The Streamys Facebook page where people could list who they thought would be nominated. The prize was tickets to the Streamys. The only ones I guessed were The Guild and Legend of Neil....
Red Carpet Hosts
There is also a competition to be a Red Carpet host for The Streamys. I didn't bother to do a video because the rules said you had to be a US resident. There is some confusion about that. @streamysaward posted this last night after some discussion on twitter about it:

It was hubby's birthday yesterday (Yay! Cake and cookies!) so HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUBBY (for yesterday). Anyway, it always amazes me how quickly we get to March and so much has happened over the last few weeks with regards to The Guild that I thought some clip notes might be helpful. You know, in case Felicia rings up one day and asks you if you've seen her latest BrownCoatsMovie interview and you didn't know anything about it - imagine how embarrassing that would be!

Knights of The Guild - powered by Unicorns Kenny and Jenni continue to provide us with amazing podcasts - and videos! - choc-full of Guildie goodness with their podcasts and website. It was recently their one year anniversary and as a treat they threw a huge party and invited all the Guildies - fans, cast and crew - to attend. Those of us who couldn't attend in person (and some fans did make the trip) could watch online on Ustream. It was a great party! The full video is online, too (password is available from the Knights of The Guild website).
The best thing is to subscribe to the podcast so you don't miss an episode. With podcasts, microcasts and videos being released there is never long to wait for a new installment.
Codex's Staff Auction
Have you been following Greg Aronowitz as he tests Felicia's handiness as they make a Codex staff together? Greg has been posting amazing details about how he constructed the staff along with some brilliant videos of him and Felicia in perfect harmony. Part 3 is now up along with some exciting news. The staff they expertly made is up for auction! This is a one-of-a-kind piece made by Felicia (with some small help from Greg) and is sure to raise a lot of funds for The Red Cross.
Sean Becker and Jeff Lewis: a new collaboration
With a World Premiere tonight at the 'Shorts 'n' Spirits Showcase', the brand new series from Becker (Director of The Guild) and Lewis (Vork from The Guild) is set to hit an unsuspecting audience in Glendale. Titled 'The Jeff Lewis 5-Minute Comedy Hour' this series promises to show a whole new side of our beloved Guild Leader. When I interviewed Sean last year he said that people were going to be blown away by this series and that Jeff's writing was more than adequate. In an interview for Tubefilter as part of their article about the 'Shorts 'n' Spirits' night, Jeff Lewis was similarly enthusiastic, saying
"I had done sketch comedy in theater for many years and always wanted to widen my audience to the entire world. Sean was the fourth person I thought of.”
Emerald City Comic Con
Some of the cast and crew of The Guild will be headed over to Seattle for ECCC and will be there on March 13th and 14th. Check the website for full details about when they will be appearing. Felicia Day will not now be appearing due to something or other, what was is now...erm....OH YES! She's landed a starring role in a movie!!! Gratz to Felicia and hope we find out more soon!

Sandeep Parikh and Felicia Day Introduce The Inaugural Streamys
There has been such a massive upsurge of interest and talent streaming into Web Television that the nominations this year will be that much harder. With no Dr Horrible or Battlestar Galactica there are still plenty of big-money productions**. I hope, though, that some of the lesser-funded series are represented because some of these are truly awesome.
The People Choice Award
Tubefilter ran a competition last year for people to write their lists of who might be in The People's Choice Award, offering a ticket to the actual award ceremony as a prize. My list was full of awesome (of course) but I didn't win, coming a "...an honorable second". I hope they run the competition again. They have been doing something similar already asking people to send in their nomination lists for each category via twitter. So if you want to make sure you are up to date with all the news follow @tubefilter and @streamyawards.
*If you look at the list of awards and who won them then Dr Horrible and The Guild didn't win everything on the list. It just seemed that way on the night.
** Yes, I know that technically Dr Horrible was not a big-budget production but it was and remains the exception to the rule in that there are very few people in the 'Verse who can command such talent and equipment for no money down.
AT LAST!
The Guild Season 3 DVD is now available on Amazon.com and sales are brisk. Okay, you might have seen them all on MSN/Xbox/iTunes already - but that isn't the same as owning your own DVD because there are so many extras you can't get elsewhere!! Felicia blogged about the DVD and there is a special Knights of Guild minicast where some fans (including yours truly) talk about each one of the extras. And no - I'm not telling you how access the special Easter Egg! But it's well worth breaking your remote to find it...
And if you're still not convinced you should buy it, consider this. Felicia has been experimenting with Buzz (the new Social Media whatnot from Google) and someone asked her whether the DVD was monetarily better than asking for donations. Her reply was this:
"Um Robert good question. But out of 5 million views on YouTube we only had 350ish donors for the first season. Unfortunately people sporadically donating 1-5 dollars on average at a time cannot fund a production, and then people only donate AFTER they see the episodes. The DVD is a very important part of our show, and we invest a lot of time and money to make it worthwhile to buy outside of the free episodes streaming. That way people get something tangible in exchange for their purchase/donation. I hope that answers your question! :)"
The comic series promises to show a different side to The Guild characters and I'm really looking forward to finding out more about what their lives are like outside of their Guild activities!

No word yet about whether Season 4 is going to be funded by Xbox Live but....I think we'll be hearing soon. Fingers crossed! :)
